advertisement
The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) June 27 awarded Alcatel Transport Automation a $9 million contract to renovate its Seetal line’s signaling system.
The 18.6-mile Lenzburg-to-Eschenbach line will be equipped with Alcatel’s 6131 LockTrac product (also known as ELEKTRA) for electronic interlockings, and the company’s 6413 AlTrac for automatic train protection, according to European train control system (ETCS) level 1 standards. The contract also calls for 24 light signals, 26 points machines, 70 level crossings and 131 electronic axle counters.
The project is the first part of a planned commuter train network. Alcatel’s Switzerland unit will coordinate 10 subcontractors and will oversee planning, installation, testing and commissioning, which is planned for November 2002.
