advertisement
Alcatel announced May 22 that its Transport Automation Solutions division was awarded a contract valued at more than $14 million to supply its SelTrac S40 communications-based train control system to Wuhan Light Rail & Transportation Co. for the city’s first metro line. Wuhan is the capital city of Central China’s Hubei province.
The moving-block system will control 24 interlocking points, and enable officials to operate 12 four-car trains at 50 mph on an elevated dual track using automatic train supervision.
Wuhan’s six-mile metro line is scheduled to begin serving 10 stations in late 2004. In a second phase, the line would be extended to 18.6 miles and serve an additional 16 stations.
