The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is seeking public input on the proposed Five Points Station transformation project as part of the environmental process under the National Environmental Policy Act.
Five Points Station is the largest and busiest rail station in MARTA's system. It serves as the connecting point for four rail lines — the North/South (Red and Gold) and East/West Lines (Green and Blue) — and nine bus routes.
The project will undergo a month of public review of the environmental assessment before the Federal Transit Administration takes the final approval steps, which are expected to be a finding of no significant environmental impacts under NEPA, MARTA officials said in a news release.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill will lead the design of the canopy deconstruction and removal port of the project, and Skanska Building USA will serve as the construction management at risk contractor and will oversee the project.
The Five Points Station transformation project will cost $206 million and will be funded by the More MARTA Atlanta half-penny sales tax, $13.8 million from the state of Georgia and a $25 million federal RAISE grant.
