The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Transit Tech Lab, an accelerator program for startups looking to solve public transit challenges, has expanded to five other New York City-area agencies to support a unified approach to transit innovation.

The program enables selected startups to pitch and then pilot an innovation or technology solution for a transit agency in less than six months.

Last year, Transit Tech Lab focused on MTA only, but now includes New Jersey Transit, Amtrak, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York City Department of Transportation and the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

This year, the agencies challenged the startups to pitch solutions that would address accessibility improvements, enhanced traffic coordination and creation of new sources of revenue.

The submission period for the 2020 program closed yesterday.
