FTA allocates $300M for three transit-rail projects
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) yesterday announced a total of $300 million in federal funding allocations to three transit-rail projects in California, Washington and Arizona.
Through tje FTA’s Capital Investment Grants (CIG) Program, which provides funding for major transit infrastructure capital investments, each of the following projects with be allocated $100 million:
• Los Angeles Metro’s (LA Metro) third and final section of the Purple Line Extension project that will extend the line 2.6 miles from the future Century City Station to the Westwood/Veterans Hospital area and add two stations in Los Angeles;
• Sound Transit’s Federal Way project that will extend light-rail service 7.8 miles from the Angle Lake Station in SeaTac, Washington, through the cities of Des Moines, Kent and Federal Way. The project also includes constructing three stations; and
Upon final FTA approval of a construction grant agreement, LA Metro will receive $100 million in previously approved fiscal-year 2018 CIG funds, as well as $100 million in FY2019 CIG funds. Sound Transit and Valley Metro each will receive $100 million in FY2019 funds.
With this announcement, FTA has advanced funding for 25 new CIG projects since Jan. 20, 2017, totaling $7.63 billion in funding commitments, FTA officials said in a press release.
