Metro Transit-St. Louis yesterday opened the new Cortex MetroLink light-rail station, the agency's first new light-rail station in more than a decade.Located between the Central West End and Grand MetroLink stations, the new station is in the Cortex Innovation Community, a tech and bioscience research hub in St. Louis. The $15 million station is the first MetroLink stop to be constructed using public and private funding, Metro Transit officials said in a blog post. In September 2014, the U.S. Department of Transportation provided a $10.3 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant to help build the station. The remaining costs were covered by the Cortex Innovation Community and local partners, including Washington University. In June 2017, Metro Transit broke ground on the Cortex station. The agency tapped HNTB Corp. to lead the project's design team.
