Sound Transit nears completion of elevated guideway for Angle Lake light-rail station

On Monday, Sound Transit crews installed the last concrete segments of elevated guideway for the $383 million South 200th Link light-rail extension.

The 1.6-mile guideway now reaches the site of a planned Angle Lake station at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

"Finishing the guideway moves us one step closer to extending light rail to the Angle Lake community," said Sound Transit Board Chair and King County Executive Dow Constantine in a statement. "By next fall, Link riders will be able to board one stop south of the airport and ride congestion-free all the way to the University of Washington."

Design-build contractor PCL Civil Constructors still must perform additional work on set rails, erect an overhead catenary system and install system communications, Sound Transit officials said.

Meanwhile, a second tunnel boring machine for the agency's $2.1 billion Northgate Link light-rail extension project reached the site of the future Roosevelt Station.

The machine's arrival marked the completion of a second 1.5-mile segment of a 3.4-mile tunnel that will serve light-rail trains running from Northgate Mall to the University of Washington.

Sound Transit aims to complete digging work by the middle of 2016 and open the Northgate Link line in 2021, officials said.
