Toronto Transit Commission completes Union Station renovations

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) last week announced the completion of several subway improvements at its Union Station.

Renovations included a second subway platform, a new concourse, improved signage, and ramped walkways with glazed glass partitions. TTC also constructed an elevator and escalator to the new platform, as well as an automatic entrance to the Brookfield tunnel, agency officials said in a press release.

The $137.5 million subway station improvement project was funded by the city of Toronto, the province of Ontario and the government of Canada. (The figure is stated in Canadian dollars.)

"The new concourse and second platform at Union station will provide TTC customers with a modern, convenient and less-crowded subway station for their commute," said TTC Chair Josh Colle, adding that more than 100,000 passengers travel through Union Station each day.
