Sound Transit seeks public input on new ballot measure for transit projects

Sound Transit yesterday launched a public involvement campaign for the new Sound Transit 3 ballot measure, which will provide a list of priority projects for the agency's future expansion.

To adequately gather feedback on the measure, Sound Transit has launched an interactive website and plotted several public meetings throughout this month.

The agency is looking for comments on a draft list of projects to be considered as possible candidates for the measure. Potential projects include light-rail extensions to Everett, Tacoma, downtown Redmond, Ballard and West Seattle, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.

"Continued expansion of our successful transit system through ST3 is critical to keeping our people and our economy moving," said Sound Transit Chair and King County Executive Dow Constantine in a statement. "It's a pivotal time at Sound Transit, and we invite our riders to be a part of it."

Community members can learn more about transit projects and take an online survey on soundtransit3.org, the new site Sound Transit launched.

In order to for the Sound Transit 3 measure to be considered by voters in November 2016, the Washington State Legislature must grant the region additional local revenue authority, Sound Transit officials said. The agency is seeking $15 billion in new revenue authority.
