LACMTA proposes $5.56 billion budget for FY2016

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) will hold a public hearing May 20 on its proposed $5.56 billion budget for the 2016 fiscal year, which begins July 1.

The LACMTA board is scheduled to meet May 28 to consider adoption of the budget.

The FY2016 budget calls for $1.5 billion to maintain the agency's current levels of service, in addition to setting aside $2.1 billion for capital projects, LACMTA officials said in a press release.

The proposed budget calls for allocating more than $400 million for the Expo Line extension, and about $106 million for the Gold Line Foothill Extension to Azusa, Calif., according to the budget document.

In total, five different rail projects will be under construction in the upcoming fiscal year, LACMTA officials said.

The proposed budget would not alter any existing fare policies or result in major service changes, they added.
