Sound Transit survey finds strong support for regional transit package

Seventy percent of 1,500 randomly selected Seattle-area voters expressed support for a regional transit ballot that would seek approval for $15 billion in regional transit investments, including 30 additional miles of light rail, according to Sound Transit.

The survey findings were presented to Sound Transit's board last week as part of the agency's preparation for the Sound Transit 3 regional transportation package, agency officials said in a press release.

In the coming months, the board will explore principles, projects and investment levels for a ballot measure, or system plan, for voter consideration in November 2016 or later. The process began last week with a discussion of principles that will guide shaping the plan, Sound Transit officials said.

Public meetings to be held around the region and online will get underway in the summer, with additional opportunities planed for first-quarter 2016 with the board's anticipated adoption of a Draft System Plan for public review.
