HART unveils Honolulu airport station design

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit (HART) last week unveiled the design for the Honolulu International Airport Station, which will be located between the airport's international and overseas parking structures.

The station will include protected pedestrian walkways to both parking structures; a street-level covered walkway to the arrivals area of the overseas terminal; and pull-up areas for bus, handicap vans and auto drop offs.

Slated to be completed in 2017, the station will serve about 15,000 riders per day, HART officials said in a press release.

Agency officials plan to schedule a meeting in August to solicit community input on the station's design.

Meanwhile, HART will hold a meeting tomorrow to solicit public comments on plans for a transit-oriented development serving the rail stations in the airport area.
