Richard Dahl, who most recently served as general manager for the North County Transit District's Sprinter light-rail service in northern San Diego, died unexpectedly on July 15 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident the day before, according to a press release. In 2005, Dahl joined Veolia Transportation, a subsidiary of Connex Railroad L.L.C., as a trainmaster for Metrolink in southern California. He quickly rose through the ranks, serving as a senior transportation manager and assistant general manager before being appointed as Sprinter's GM in 2009. “Rick was greatly respected and loved by his colleagues, friends and family," said Veolia Chief Operating Officer for Rail Don Saunders in a prepared statement. "He was a true railroader and a man of great integrity. He had an open heart and a helping hand for those who needed it. We all grieve at this tragic loss.” Added Veolia Rail Division CEO Ron Hartman: “Rick was a consummate professional. He ran a high-quality service operation and was well respected in the rail industry.” Dahl is survived by two college-age daughters; his mother, brother and long-time girlfriend, Marlyss.
