Cleveland RTA approves operating, capital budgets for 2013

Yesterday, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) approved a $237.6 million operating budget and a $94 million capital budget for 2013.

The operating budget will include a more than 5 percent increase in rail and bus services, the addition of 15 new positions and the creation of a Rolling Stock Replacement Fund, GCRTA officials said in a prepared statement.

Operational improvements will include a 30 percent increase in service on Red, Blue and Green lines, and extended evening hours on the NineTwelve Trolley as new major employers are added to the East Ninth Street Corridor.

Highlights of the capital budget include the completion of design and beginning of construction on the University Circle-Little Italy Station, and $20 million in state-of-good repair projects, such as rebuilding the Airport Transit Station and Tunnel, the S-Curve rebuild project and many grade crossings.
