L.A. transportation authority to host meeting on Union Station master plan

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) will host a meeting today to solicit public involvement in the preparation of a master plan to upgrade Los Angeles Union Station.

The meeting —  the first in a series to be held throughout the process — will feature presentations and discussions of the planning process, existing station conditions and engagement with attendees to provide stakeholders feedback on the master plan's broader vision and goals, LACMTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The plan will serve as a "roadmap" for developing the station and 40 surrounding acres that LACMTA purchased in April 2011, they said. The planning process will include near-term passenger and other circulation improvements, as well as longer term rail and joint development opportunities, including an analysis of high-speed rail station alternatives.

The process also will help determine how to create better access for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as clearer links between transit modes on site. In addition, the planning team will explore close links between the station's neighbors and downtown area.
