TriMet posts April ridership gains in all modes


The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) posted ridership gains in April, marking the 13th consecutive month the agency has posted increases in weekday, weekly and monthly ridership.

The agency posted 8.8 million trips for the month, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.

April ridership increased in each mode of transportation: Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) light-rail, Westside Express Service (WES) commuter-rail, and bus.

WES reached a record ridership of 1,700 weekday/rush-hour trips, up 5.6 percent compared with April 2011. Weekly trips also rose 5.6 percent to a record 8,500.

On MAX, weekday trips moved up slightly by 0.1 percent to 132,300; weekly trips rose 1.4 percent to 843,800; weekend trips jumped 6.3 percent to 182,300; and rush-hour trips increased 3.4 percent to 39,900.

WES, MAX and bus services combined, TriMet’s weekday ridership climbed 1.4 percent to 340,000 trips; weekend ridership rose 5.6 percent to 381,000; and weekly ridership jumped 2.1 percent to 2,081,000.
