The Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority (RCRRA) board has conditionally approved the selection of two firms that will play a critical role in helping the authority realize its vision for a renovated Union Depot in St. Paul, Minn.

RCRRA now will begin negotiating with Jones Lang LaSalle for property management and leasing/activation services for the historic station. If selected, the real estate firm will assume the day-to-day property management of the depot, including general facility management, building operations and maintenance, cleaning and security. The firm also will implement a retail development plan for Union Depot, leveraging significant investment in new transportation services and the restoration of the facility.

Jones Lang LaSalle manages Union Station in Washington, D.C., Union Station in Chicago and Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

RCRRA also will begin negotiations with One on One Bicycle Studio Inc. to design and operate a bicycle center on the depot’s ground level. The center would feature secure bicycle storage, showers and lockers for commuters, as well as bicycle repair and retail services.

The authority is overseeing the transformation of Union Depot’s 33-acre site into a state-of-the-art multimodal transit hub, which will be served by Amtrak, light-rail, bus and taxi services. In the future, the depot would be served by high-speed rail service operating to and from Chicago. The Union Depot renovation is scheduled for completion by 2012’s end.
