This week, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) began to replace 20 aging traction power substations and electrical support systems on the Blue Line.
The project is being funded with a $71 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant.
Each new substation will consume about 5 percent less energy than the existing power substations, L.A. Metro officials said in a prepared statement.
