Valley Metro alters service to address sales tax revenue decline

Phoenix’s Valley Metro recently announced several METRO light-rail service changes for fiscal-year 2010-11 because of a decrease in sales tax collections, according to an announcement on the agency's website.

On July 26, Valley Metro will increase peak-period headways from 10 minutes to 12 minutes. In addition, peak-hour service will run from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. instead of from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. At all other times, METRO will run at 20-minute headways.

In addition, the agency has added five more holidays — Christmas Eve, the day after Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day and Veterans Day — to the list of transit holidays. On those days, trains will run on a 20-minute Sunday schedule.
