WMATA oversight committee submits audit response

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority’s (WMATA) oversight body, the Tri-State Oversight Committee (TOC) recently submitted its response to the Federal Transit Administration’s audit of TOC and WMATA.

The response is the latest in a series of actions taken by the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. officials to improve safety oversight of the WMATA system.

Included in the audit response are letters from officials from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. committing to providing the agency with additional resources and a document developed and adopted by the three jurisdictions, which addresses short- and long-term policy issues for oversight of WMATA.

The audit comes on the heels of WMATA’s June 2009 train accident and assesses the agency, as well as the TOC. Routine audits generally focus only on the oversight agency, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. officials said in a prepared statement.
