GO Transit to purchase CN line

Yesterday, GO Transit announced it will acquire CN's Weston Subdivision for $160 million. The acquisition will enable GO Transit to more easily add service and build new infrastructure between Toronto's Union Station and areas northwest of the city.

The CN line runs from downtown Toronto northwest to CN's main east-west freight line. GO Transit currently operates its Georgetown commuter-rail service over the corridor, which also accommodates VIA Rail trains running between Toronto, Kitchener and other points in southwestern Ontario. Currently, 46 passenger trains and three local CN trains operate over the line daily.

Under the agreement, CN will continue to serve its freight customers on the corridor.
