Minnesota agency proposes Northstar fares

advertisement

Next month, the Twin Cities' Metropolitan Council will hold three public hearings to obtain feedback on proposed fares for the Northstar commuter-rail line, which is set to open between Big Lake, Minn., and downtown Minneapolis later this year.

The agency has proposed a tiered fare system, basing ticket prices on the travel distance between the suburban stations and downtown Minneapolis. The Metropolitan Council has proposed one-way weekday cash fares of $8 from Big Lake, $6 from Elk River, $4 from Anoka and Coon Rapids, and $3.25 from Fridley. For passengers not traveling downtown, one-way fares between stations would cost $3.25.
