Rail News: Passenger Rail

Tri-Met celebrates Airport MAX opening

While many transit agencies throughout the country are encouraging commuters to "Try Transit" this week, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (Tri-Met) Sept. 10 - 14 is suggesting travelers "Take the train to the plane."

Tri-Met’s MAX Light Rail Red Line now extends to Portland International Airport (PDX) and officials are introducing service Sept. 10.

Red Line trains would leave every 15 minutes between 5 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., seven days a week. The trip from downtown Portland to PDX would take 38 minutes, costing $1.55 one way.

During the week-long celebration, Tri-Met officials plan to hand out special "Take MAX to the Airport" MAX Passes — scratch-off tickets that grants all holders either Tri-Met monthly passes, or two round-trip tickets either Horizon Air or Alaska Air to any destination the airlines fly.

In addition, Tri-Met is offering a free ride home from PDX Sept. 15 - 16 for those attending festivities, which includes music and entertainment at PDX’s new Concourse C.
