Sound Transit to consider awarding Bechtel Infrastructure construction management contract

Sound Transit’s board plans July 11 to approve awarding Bechtel Infrastructure a three-year, $7.4 million contract to provide construction management services for Central Link light rail; options could extend the contract term an additional two years.

Bechtel would provide resident engineering; office engineering; civil, structural, electrical, track, mechanical and utilities inspection; estimating; change order administration; safety inspection, electrical work; quality assurance materials testing and management; and diversity administration.

The contract’s scope also covers management for four other contracts, including: procurement for Seattle City Light poles being relocated on the E-3 busway; environmental abatement, cleanup and demolition of 17 buildings; construction of 1.4 miles of at-grade and elevated light-rail guideway, and the Lander Street Station; and construction of the Central Link Operations and Maintenance Facility.

The total value of construction to be administered under the contract is between $110 million and $130 million. Central Link is scheduled for completion in July 2005.
