Bombardier inks deals in Australia and China

Bombardier recently received orders worth $300 million from rail systems in China and Australia.

Australia’s National Express and Victorian State Government Nov. 21 ordered 29 two-car diesel multiple units for Victoria’s country and regional services, and contracted Bombardier’s maintenance services for 15 years. The firm order is valued at $212 million; options to manufacture and maintain 10 more units would increase the contract’s value to $284 million.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen Metro Co. Ltd. Nov. 23 ordered 19 six-car trains from CARC, a joint venture between Bombardier and Changchun Car Co. Bombardier’s share of the $139 million order is $88 million. The cars would be used for Phase 1 of a system under construction in Shenzhen City, in the South of China, neighboring Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Bombardier plans to deliver the trainsets to Australia between October 2004 and July 2006; to China, between early 2004 and second-half 2005.
