advertisement
Today, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will hold a Regional Mobility Initiative Planning Session — the first in a series of meetings designed to help the authority identify regional transportation needs and determine WMATA’s role in improving mobility.
Officials will discuss challenges facing the region and the authority, such as funding shortfalls, subway and traffic congestion, and air quality. WMATA execs also will propose ways to provide transportation for areas that currently are under served or not served at all, and maintain infrastructure.
The meeting will be divided into two panels entitled "What are the most effective transportation system management strategies that will improve mobility?" and "What are the demand management strategies that will reduce congestion by encouraging transit use and trip reduction?"
