Bay Area Rapid Transit's (BART) board yesterday approved a $7.6 million project to improve the agency's station and plaza in downtown Berkeley, Calif.
Working with the city of Berkeley, BART will build a new entrance enclosure, new furnishings and bus shelters, agency officials said in a press release.
The project also calls for improved landscaping and LED lighting. Additionally, all on-site stormwater captured at the station will be treated through bio-retention planters and landscaping, BART officials added.
As part of the project, BART will improve signage throughout the station and plaza.
The station's redesign will make the area more pedestrian-friendly, said BART board member Rebecca Saltzman.
