Norfolk Southern Railway's Community Impact grant program is accepting applications from eligible tax-exempt nonprofits through Aug. 3.
Launched in 2023, the program has provided organizations in communities along NS' mainline over $17 million. Last year, NS awarded more than $6.1 million to 400 organizations in 22 states, NS officials said in a press release.
Funding is available through two grant categories. First responders and organizations that work to prevent or prepare for emergencies through education, crime mitigation and disaster relief can apply for up to $15,000 through the Safety First grant category. This category is open to public 501(c)(3) and government entities.
Organizations that support public well-being through resource aid programs, sustainability initiatives and workforce development programs can apply for up to $50,000 from the Thriving Communities grant category. This category is only open to public 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
Information on the grant categories and how to apply can be found on NS' grant program webpage.
