NS honors 57 shippers for safe hazmat-by-rail practices

Norfolk Southern Railway yesterday recognized 57 customers for their commitment to safely transport hazardous materials by rail in 2024.

Recipients of the Thoroughbred Safety Award originated or received 100% of their shipments in 2024 on the Class I's network with zero nonaccidental releases, reflecting the highest standards of care, collaboration and shared responsibility to the public and the American economy, NS officials said in a press release.

The award recipients are divided into two categories: corporations recognized for outstanding safety and commitment to excellence; and plant sites recognized for 100% rail recipients. A list of award winners can be found here. 

“These awards celebrate customers who uphold rigorous safety practices that protect their teams, our employees and the communities we serve,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Ed Elkins.
