The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has issued a request for proposals to four prequalified engineering teams to develop proposals on the first major contract for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Silicon Valley Berryessa extension project.
The design-build contract is estimated at $800 million and includes the line, track, stations and systems for the 10-mile Berryessa extension, the first phase of a 16-mile BART extension into Santa Clara County, Calif.
The four teams are: KGS Constructors (Kiewit Infrastructure West/Stacey and Witbeck/Granite Construction Co.); Skanska-Shimmick-Herzog; Tutor Perini and Parsons SVBX; and Walsh/Flatiron/Comstock.
The teams will be required to engage additional subprime, disadvantaged and small business enterprises for part of the work, VTA officials said in a prepared statement.
The proposals are due Aug. 23. VTA tentatively plans to award the contract in November.
Authority officials anticipate announcing another major contract for the first 10-mile phase of the BART Silicon Valley project in fall 2012. That $200 million contract will include stations and parking structures.
