It didn’t crack the top 100, but BNSF Railway Co. attained one of its highest-ever ranks on Fortune magazine’s annual Fortune 500 list: No. 171.
In 2005, the railroad generated record revenue for the third-straight year and moved an all-time-high 10 million loads of freight.
The 2005 Fortune 500 list also ranks several BNSF customers, including Wal-Mart (No. 2), Ford Motor Co. (No. 5), Home Depot (No. 14), Target (No. 29) and Best Buy (No. 76). Exxon Mobil topped the list.
The Fortune 500 ranking follows a recent Business Week magazine list that included BNSF as one of the top 50 performers last year on the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index.
