Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Yesterday, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) began upgrading trackbed in the Twin Peaks Tunnel and improving West Portal Station.
For the past two years, SFMTA has been conducting the Metro Improvement Project, which calls for replacing the Muni overhead catenary system. The project is still on pace to be completed in mid-January. However, during inspections and survey work conducted in fall, SFMTA determined the Twin Peaks Tunnel trackbed needed to be upgraded. So, the agency developed a 65-day accelerated construction schedule for the work.
The agency also opted to make improvements at West Portal Station. The project calls for deep cleaning the facility, removing graffiti, repainting work, cleaning and replacing glass, and polishing stainless steel.
