Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Cando Contracting Ltd. recently formed an alliance with Sumitomo Canada under which Sumitomo will become a major Cando shareholder and Cando will obtain financing to pursue growth opportunities. A Sumitomo Corp. subsidiary, Sumitomo Canada supplies rail, tie plates, wheels, axles and other products to freight and passenger railroads.
The partners plan to expand Cando’s portfolio of products and services, which now include short-line operations, railway contracting, industrial switching, track installation, transloading and transportation logistics, and new and used rail materials. Cando owns and operates the Athabasca Northern, Barrie Collingwood, Central Manitoba and Orangeville Brampton railways.
