Wabtec Corp. subsidiary MotivePower Inc. recently obtained orders totaling $33 million from three transit agencies for 12 MPXpress® commuter locomotives.
The Southern California Regional Rail Authority and Metropolitan Council of Minnesota exercised options to each purchase an additional four units as part of a multi-agency procurement. The New Mexico Mid-Region Council of Governments, which currently has five MPXpress locomotives in service, also exercised an option for four additional units.
Scheduled to be delivered in 2008 and 2009, the locomotives feature higher-horsepower engines and microprocessor controls, and offer improved fuel efficiency and reduced air emissions. The power also meets the latest crashworthiness and safety standards recommended by the American Public Transportation Association.
