Kelso Technologies obtains first order for tank-car relief valve

Yesterday, Kelso Technologies announced it sold its first JS75 SRV pressure relief valves to a major U.S. chemical producer and tank-car fleet operator. The buyer’s name wasn’t disclosed.
In February 2004, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) approved Kelso’s request to market the valve for use on all 75-pound general purpose tank cars carrying hazardous materials in North America; In July 2004, the AAR certified a stainless steel version of the valve, which Kelso tested for two years during service trials across North America.
The valve is designed to prevent product contamination and back pressure, and eliminate the need for a safety valve nozzle. Smaller and lighter compared with other pressure-relief valves, the JS75 SRV features an unobstructed opening and flow aperture, and can be retrofitted to existing tank cars without structural changes, according to Kelso.
Kelso is marketing the valve to North American oil and gas, and chemical shippers and tank-car lessors/owners though its recently formed U.S. subsidiary.
