KCSM posts progress on 'paperless' car repair billing

In January, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) transitioned to an interim "paperless" rail-car repair data system to comply with Transportation Technology Center Inc./Association of American Railroads (TTCI/AAR) mandates. Later this year, the railroad will implement a permanent system.
The interim one receives and processes contractor data for all mechanical repairs (involving about 30,000 records per month) and pool repairs (25,000 records monthly), produces an electronic invoice and generates an electronic data file, as required by TTCI/AAR, KCSM said. The system has helped the railroad obtain more detailed car data for financial planning and reduce auditing costs.
KCSM plans to eventually deploy a Wabtec Corp. system currently used by U.S. sister railroad The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. to make car repair billing on both railroads consistent and paperless.
