John Carroll Jr. will hold the reins at FreightCar America Inc. for just six more months. Yesterday, the freight-car builder announced it reached an agreement with Carroll under which the president and chief executive officer extended his term with the company from Dec. 31 to April 30, 2007. Carroll then will leave FreightCar America to pursue other interests, the company said.
Carroll joined FreightCar America (formerly Johnstown America) in 1998. He previously served as president and chief operating officer of former car builder Thrall Car Manufacturing Co., and division president of Gunderson Inc.
FreightCar America’s board has formed a search committee to find Carroll’s successor.
“John’s leadership was especially valuable during the past several years of strong growth as FreightCar America became a public company,” said FreightCar America Chairman Camillo Santomero III in a prepared statement.
FreightCar America builds coal, flat, intermodal and coil steel cars; steel hoppers; mill gondolas; and motor vehicle carriers.
