On Jan. 22, Johnstown America Corp. announced it's building 500 flat cars for TTX Co. The 100-ton capacity, 89-foot cars are designed in three different configurations.
"Some of the cars are equipped with timber risers for carrying pipe, others are equipped with tie-downs for carrying military equipment and a third group are equipped to carry both," said Mike Kelly, Johnstown America vice president of sales, Midwest region, in a prepared statement, adding that the cars also can carry such materials as machinery, specialized vehicles and other steel products.
The cars feature a 206,100-pound load limit and 286,000-pound gross rail-load capacity.
