Trucking firm leases North Las Vegas track to new short line

Yesterday, trucking and warehousing firm Pan Western Corp. announced it's leasing 2.7 track miles off Union Pacific Railroad's mainline in North Las Vegas to new Class III carrier Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad Co. (TTRC).

Under a $1.5 million partnership agreement, Pan Western will own the line and TTRC will operate over it to move water treatment plant materials, cement, rebar, acid, soda ash and ore. The line serves an industrial park at which Pan Western offers transportation, logistics, reload and warehousing services.

"Now, companies can lease the Tonopah & Tidewater's services, something they couldn't do through Union Pacific, generating a new level of services for local business," said Pan Western President Moe Truman in a prepared statement.

Established in 1906, the original Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad went out of business during World War II.
