Rail News: M&A

PPG acquires Champion Coatings' assets

PPG Industries recently acquired certain assets of Champion Coatings Inc., which supplies coatings to the rail, marine and overland industries. Terms weren’t disclosed.

PPG acquired Champion’s inventory, accounts receivable, brand names, coating formulations, customer lists and selected equipment. Champion will continue to own its Houston plant, which will produce coating products for PPG.

Last year, PPG — which supplies paints, coatings, chemicals, optical products, specialty materials, glass and fiberglass products — acquired Ameron’s Performance Coatings and Finishes business.

“We are continuing to accelerate our profitable growth in coatings by making strategic acquisitions,” said PPG Senior Vice President-Coatings Rich Alexander in a prepared statement.
