Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members on Feb. 5 ratified a new contract with Keolis Commuter Services for locomotive engineers working at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority in Boston. The agreement governs pay, benefits and work roles for 194 members.

The five-year contract is retroactive to July 1, 2023, and provides general wage increases of 25%, or 5% each year, BLET officials said in a press release. The pact also calls for a $2 per hour addition on top of the 5% general wage increase in 2027, totaling a compounded general wage increase of 31.87% throughout the term of the agreement.

Other terms include the addition of three paid sick days annually, improvements to bereavement leave, lowering of working day per year requirements for current and new hires, the addition of Juneteenth as a holiday. Additionally, the local BLET chairmen have been granted discovery for formal on-property investigations.

Keolis operates MBTA’s 14 commuter rail lines in the Boston region and Rhode Island. It is the nation's fifth busiest commuter-rail system, serving nearly 90,000 passengers on weekdays, BLET officials said.
