President Bush recently established an emergency board to investigate a collective bargaining dispute between the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET).
The president appointed Kirk Van Tine chairman, and Roger Nober and Robert Peterson, members of the Presidential Emergency Board. They will conduct a hearing and make a recommendation for a contract settlement within 30 days. No work stoppages are permitted for 120 days following July 8, the board’s effective date.
SEPTA and BLET officials have been unable to negotiate a contract covering locomotive engineers.
