BNSF, TCU reach tentative pact for intermodal workers

BNSF Railway and the Transportation Communications Union (TCU/IAM) intermodal group have reached a new five-year collective bargaining agreement covering members working at the BNSF Cicero, Corwith, Seattle and Memphis intermodal facilities.

Subject to ratification, the agreement covers 746 employees, BNSF officials said in a press release. The pact calls for wage increases totaling 17.5% over five years — 18.8% compounded — with retroactive pay beginning July 1, 2025. The agreement also contains enhanced vacation time and maintains health care benefits.

In July 2025, TCU members rejected a prior tentative agreement with BNSF. The parties returned to the bargaining table for several months. The resulting tentative agreement eliminates "undesirable language" around vacation qualifications, holiday protection, meal periods and training, TCU officials said in a separate press release.

The pact follows the same terms as the national rail bargaining pattern, BNSF officials said. Including this agreement, 95% of BNSF's workforce and 12 of the 13 represented unions are covered by either ratified or tentative agreements.
