Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members who operate Caltrain trains ratified a new five-year contract with Transit America Services Inc. (TASI) last week.

The contract will cover 68 locomotive engineers. Eighty-four percent of members cast ballots, with 50 voting in favor (89%) and six voting against (11%) the contract, BLET officials said in a press release. The contract calls for numerous work rule improvements and a general wage package in line with other passenger engineers' pay in the United States, BLET officials said.

TASI is the contractor for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, which owns and operates Caltrain, a commuter-rail service in Northern California between Gilroy and San Francisco.
