Colorado, Texas short-line workers ratify new contracts
Fifteen workers represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) unanimously ratified a new three-year agreement with Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C. (GWR).
Expiring Feb. 15, 2015, the agreement includes a lump sum allowance that’s retroactive to July 1, 2008, 2 percent general wage increase each year through 2014 and numerous work rule improvements, according to the BLET. The pact also preserves the current health and welfare plan, union officials said in a prepared statement.
The workers joined the BLET in October 2003 and ratified their first contract in November 2004.
Owned by OmniTRAX Inc., GWR operates 80 miles of track in northern Colorado and interchanges with BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad.
Meanwhile, trainmen and engineers represented by the United Transportation Union (UTU) overwhelmingly ratified a new five-year agreement with the Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad.
The contract provides “substantial” wage increases and working condition improvements, an incentive compensation plan and other benefits, UTU officials said in a prepared statement.
Owned by RailAmerica Inc., the Dallas, Garland & Northeastern is a switching terminal railroad that operates 337 miles of track in the Dallas area and interchanges with BNSF, UP and Kansas City Southern.
