The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) last week launched its Ventra fare card on iPhone and Apple Watches to provide some riders a contactless, tap-and-go fare payment option.

The new feature allows CTA train and bus riders who use an iPhone or Apple Watch to add a Ventra Card to their device and tap the device at a Ventra fare reader to enter the CTA system.

The Ventra Card on iPhone and Apple Watch is available through the new Ventra mobile app that was released in September. It functions in the same way as a physical Ventra Card, allowing riders to add transit fare or passes to their cards, set up an automatic fare reload, manage their Ventra account and more, CTA officials said in a press release.

“The introduction represents the future of fare payment in public transit, and we are very happy to provide our customers with another easy-to-use, contactless payment option as we work to help keep them healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CTA President Dorval Carter Jr.
