Texas port to begin loop track project

The Port of Beaumont’s board of commissioners recently voted on a time extension for APAC-Texas Inc.’s bid proposal for the Orange County Rail Improvement Project.
The board plans to soon award the bid for the $8.4 million project to APAC-Texas. The eight- to nine-month project — which calls for building a loop track around the Texas port — might begin in August. The loop would connect with a Union Pacific Railroad line.
The project calls for excavating more than 330,000 cubic yards of material, constructing more than 23,000 feet of track and installing about 2,500 tons of asphalt pavement.
The port received a $4 million federal grant for the project. The remainder will be covered by the port’s revenue and capital improvement program.
