Schneider National Inc. last week marked 90 years as a provider of freight transportation, logistics and intermodal services.

On June 12, the Green Bay, Wisconsin-based company celebrated its founding in 1935, when Al Schneider started the company with a single truck. Since then, the company has grown into a multimodal business with 19,400 associates and 12,500 trucks, logging over 9 million freight miles daily, Schneider officials said in a press release.

Throughout its history, Schneider helped shape the supply-chain industry. According to the company, Schneider's "legacy of firsts" include:

• in 1958, secured its first interstate authority, expanding beyond Wisconsin and laying the groundwork for a national footprint;

• in 1986, became the first to trucking company equip its fleet with two-way in-cab satellite communication, eliminating the need for drivers to stop and use pay phones for assignments;

• in 1991, launched intermodal operations and in 1993 founded Schneider Logistics Inc.;

• in 2023, became the first major carrier to fully operationalize a battery electric fleet in California; and

• in 2024, established a preferred rail partnership with recently formed Canadian Pacific Kansas City.

Today, Schneider has partnered with 60 rail networks to provide service to the busiest intermodal hubs across North America, company officials said. Looking ahead, Schneider will continue to invest in strategic growth areas, including intermodal and cross-border services, particularly in Mexico. It also will pursue organic and acquisitive growth in dedicated freight services, company officials said.

"We’re not just celebrating our past — we’re accelerating into the future," said Schneider President and CEO Mark Rourke.
