SC Ports approve $294M capital plan for FY26

South Carolina Ports' (SC Ports) board this week approved a $294 million capital plan for fiscal-year 2026, during which the ports will complete a number of critical infrastructure projects.
The funding will support the completion of the Navy Base Intermodal Facility, expansion of Leatherman Termina, and upgrades to the Columbus Street Terminal, SC Ports officials said in a press release.
The Navy Base Intermodal Facility is already more than 80% completed. Once operational, the cargo yard will support the movement of goods between the Port of Charleston and inland markets via CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway. According to the ports' website, Leatherman Terminal will be built in three stages through 2032.
“Regardless of short-term economic fluctuations, the port is a long-cycle business. We are investing today to have the capacity to support our customers for decades to come,” said SC Ports President and CEO Barbara Melvin.
In May, SC Ports handled 120,796 pier containers and 219,255 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs), 21% and 22% increases over last May, respectively, SC Ports officials said. Loaded imports were up 19%, and loaded exports up 10%. Inland Port Greer had a record May with 16,952 rail moves, up 11% over last year. Inland Port Dillon remained even to last May, handling 3,856 rail moves.
