Yesterday, United Parcel Service named John McDevitt senior vice president of global transportation to succeed Chris Mahoney, who plans to retire, ending his 37-year UPS career.

Most recently SVP of strategic integration, McDevitt will be responsible for UPS' global intermodal transportation network, including rail and distribution services, the world's 11th largest airline and a surface delivery fleet of more than 150,000 vehicles.

Since joining UPS as a part-time employee in 1976, McDevitt has held various senior positions in operations, labor relations and corporate compliance. He was named VP of air operations in 2000 and SVP of strategic integration in 2003.
